Cybersecurity Breakfast - Dec 9

We are excited to announce the next edition of Les Petits-Déjeuners de la Cybersécurité, taking place on Monday, December 9th, at 10:00 AM. The event will be held in the IMAG auditorium, located at 155 Place du Torrent, 38400 Saint-Martin-d'Hères.

This engaging morning session will feature two insightful presentations, each lasting approximately 20 minutes, followed by a Q&A session and informal discussions over coffee and croissants.

1. Legal Challenges in Disclosing Cybersecurity Vulnerabilities: Protecting Ethical Hackers in France and European Inconsistencies
Coordinated vulnerability disclosure is a crucial lever for strengthening cybersecurity, yet it remains hindered by significant legal challenges. In France and across the European Union, the limited effectiveness of "safe harbors" and gaps in legislative frameworks expose ethical hackers to legal risks, despite their fundamental role in identifying, disclosing, and addressing vulnerabilities. These weaknesses, which pose systemic risks to our hyperconnected societies, require an ambitious and coherent response. The adoption of more flexible models, combined with enhanced harmonization of European policies, is essential to bolster digital resilience and foster effective collaboration between ethical hackers and organizations.

2. A Public Introduction to Spectre, Meltdown, and Other Attacks
In 2018, two attack methods based on similar principles, Spectre and Meltdown, were discovered and published. These findings received widespread coverage in the general press. Although mitigations have been developed, completely preventing such attacks remains very challenging, as doing so would significantly reduce the computing speed of machines. This presentation will offer a general-audience overview (requiring no prior technical knowledge) of how these attacks work.
