During the debates at the UN Ad Hoc Committee negotiating the UN Convention on Cybercrime several States requested a common understanding of the different categories of “Data”.

To help clarify the debate, Karine Bannelier and Anaïs Trotry submitted a comparative analysis to the UN on behalf of the Cross Border Data Forum. They prepared two Charts compiling all the relevant definitions of different categories of data that appear in more tha twenty International Instruments on data protection, cross border access to data and electronic evidence.
